Australian salmon are found from the Queensland border, south to Victoria, South Australia and right around to Geraldton on the Western Australian coastline. Rigs, locations, tides are very similar to those used for catching tailor (page 76). Salmon are more prevalent around the northern NSW coastline in winter and move southwards during summer.
Salmon, although a good fighting fish and a lot of fun to catch, are not regarded as a good table fish. Bleed the fish and keep it on ice to get the best results or use in a fish recipe rather than eating as a fillet.
It is illegal to take undersize fish. If in doubt, use an Alvey Fish Measurer.
